All steps and preparations were compiled with guidance from Seri Karn Chang Buddha Image Foundry, with over 40 years of experience. A Buddha image casting ceremony is considered one of the most sacred rituals in Buddhism. It is a collective endeavor to create a Buddha image for enshrining at a temple, school, government institution, or other significant location. Proper preparation from the very beginning ensures that the ceremony proceeds smoothly and is carried out to perfection. Step 1: Determine the Buddha Image Type and Size The first step is to decide which posture (mudra) and size of the Buddha image is required — for example, a principal image for an ordination hall (ubosot), a Buddha image for a pavilion (sala), or a medium-sized devotional image. Consulting a specialist from a Buddha image foundry is recommended to ensure that the proportions conform to the principles of traditional Thai Buddhist art. Step 2: Consult the Foundry and Design the Master Model Once the design is decided, craftsmen from the foundry sculpt the master model for inspection. The client may request revisions to any details until they are fully satisfied before the model is used to produce the casting mold. Step 3: Schedule the Ceremony Date and Contact the Monks An auspicious date should be selected, and monks should be invited to chant and lead the sacred recitations during the casting ceremony at least one to two months in advance. This ceremony is the spiritual cornerstone that makes the casting of the Buddha image complete in a religious sense. Step 4: Prepare the Venue and Equipment The venue for the Buddha image casting ceremony must have sufficient space to accommodate the smelting furnace and must meet all safety requirements. Seri Karn Chang Buddha Image Foundry is able to dispatch a team of craftsmen along with all necessary equipment to conduct the ceremony at any off-site location throughout the country, so the client does not need to arrange any tools independently. Step 5: Public Relations and Community Invitation If the Buddha image is being created for a temple or a community, a public invitation to join in the merit-making may be announced. This serves to foster collective goodness and spiritual unity within the community. Step 6: The Day of the Buddha Image Casting Ceremony On the day of the ceremony, monks lead the assembly in chanting sacred Pali recitations, after which devoted participants take turns pouring molten metal into the mold in an orderly sequence. This is regarded as a sacred moment during which every person present accumulates spiritual benefits. Step 7: Surface Finishing and Delivery After the casting is complete, craftsmen carry out all surface finishing work, including filing, polishing, and coloring, in accordance with the agreed specifications before the image is delivered and formally enshrined at its intended location.
